    Nigeria is a federal republic located in the west of Africa and is considered as one of the most populous country in the African continent. It comprises of 36 states with its capital at the city of Abuja since 1991. Though, it has a history of military coups, democracy has been re-established in the country after nearly 20 years and Olusegun Obasanjo is its most recent president.

    United States in every possible way tries its level best to help Nigeria in walking on the path of development and prosperity. In this regard, U.S. Embassy in Nigeria plays an important role. The current U.S ambassador to Nigeria is John Campbell.

    The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria has in total ten offices and sections to which different functions have been delegated. They are Office of Defense Cooperation, Office of International Narcotics Law Enforcement, US Commercial Service, USAID, Public Affairs Economic Section, Political Section, PEPFAR, Foreign Agricultural Service and most important Consular Section. The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria is closed for the general public on account of any Nigerian or American holiday.

    Travel advisory is issued from time to time in case of any internal disturbance which might prove dangerous for American citizens. The citizens of America are advised not to travel to Nigeria during domestic vacation season, i.e. in middle of November and January, because at that time there is a sudden spurt in cases of violence. For tourists, traveling by road is not recommended because burglaries by local gangs have become a regular feature on country side roads and even some major cities. Night travel is not recommended at all.

    There is a wide-spread network of Imposters in Nigeria that often proves dangerous as well as risky for tourists. The falsified tricks presents enormous threat of monetary pasting. So, not on any situation citizens of United States should take a trip to Nigeria without a legitimate visa.
